Iran Claims Strike on American Facility in the Kingdom of Bahrain, As Part of Regional Retaliatory Strikes.
Iran's military claims to have hit a American military facility in Manama, as Iran launched strikes throughout the Middle East in response for a "massive" and ongoing attack against it by the US and Israel.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an vicinity in the area of the main base of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The full scale of any impact is uncertain and the US has remained silent.
Airspace Engagements
In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and the State of Kuwait - which all house American military installations - said they have engaged and destroyed missiles in their air space.
In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence announced it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the Middle East.
IRGC Statement
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated it was striking American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the offensive on the Islamic Republic launched by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.
That initial attack - initiated at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far targeted sites linked to the Iranian leadership, with President Trump calling on the people of Iran to rise up against the regime.
Regional Fallout
In the State of Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces said it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The defence ministry of the UAE announced that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems responded to the projectiles with great effectiveness and successfully intercepted a series of missiles," it added.
Officials reported missile fragments landed in a neighborhood in the capital, causing some property damage and the death of one civilian.
The United States Air Force operates from Al Dhafra Air Base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
