New Year Celebrants Told to Dress Warmly with Snowfall Forecast Throughout the UK
Meteorologists have indicated a chilly commencement to the new year, with wintry precipitation likely across much of the UK. Those celebrating are advised to bundle up as sub-zero temperatures are expected for New Year's Eve.
Festive Plans Go Ahead In Spite of Alerts
The Scottish capital's famous Hogmanay events are set to proceed, a contrast to last year's cancellation. This is in spite of advisories for snow across northern Scotland.
"An icy New Year's Eve evening for those who are celebrating, so additional clothing will be essential," noted the weather service.

Further north, conditions will be cloudier, but this is not anticipated to impact visibility for watching fireworks. "There is no expectation of low cloud, mist or murk, so you ought to be able to see fireworks, just not stars," added one forecaster.
Extensive Advisories for Friday
As we enter Friday, advisories have been issued for Northern Ireland and from Wales, through the north-west, the West Midlands and through to London and most of the south-east of England.

Readings Set to Drop Further
With the start of 2026, it will be "cold regardless of where you are," commented forecaster Simon Partridge. The weather are forecast to fall even more as snowfall and high winds are expected to hit the north of the country.
About 10cm of snow could accumulate to have settled in some areas by Friday morning, with up to 30cm on the highest roads and hills.
Medical Advisories Released
In addition, amber-level health advisories have been issued for the north-east and north-west of England. These are set to continue until noon on 5 January, with temperatures likely to fall to between 3C and 5C.
The health agency stated this signified the weather could to lead to major effects across medical and care provision. This includes a potential rise in the number of deaths among the elderly or unwell or those in the older age groups.
